What defines who is a UK resident?

What is my domicile?

The legislation enabling claims to be brought in the United Kingdom for motor accidents in Europe refers to a person's domicile. There are complex rules on domicile and we can carry out a personal assessment.

Essentially the question is - where does the claimant consider his home to be? It does not necessarily mean where you are living or spend most of your time. You can spend most of your year living in Spain but still be classed as UK domiciled. Similarly you can be a foreign national working in the UK and be domiciled in the UK.

One of the key indicators is where you pay your tax but there are other indicators.

Even if you believe you are domiciled in another EU country we can probably help. All EU Motor Insurers are required to appoint UK agents and even if proceedings need to be issued abroad over 75% of cases can be settled without proceedings.
